I don’t normally like to spotlight my own sites here on the Design Blog. Admittedly, it is much different designing a site for myself than it is to design a site for a client. Number one, I’m easy to please. I already can read my own mind and know exactly what I want, where I want it and what it needs to do. Communicating a client’s design wishes onto the web is much different.

However - this one I wanted to give a little shout out to, only because it’s something a bit different for me. I’ve had a photoblog since June 2005. I’m not a professional photographer by any stretch of the imagination - - even the words amateur photographer are a bit of a strech. However, I enjoy snapping photos, hence the photoblog.

It’s called Snapping Photos. When I started the site, it was powered by WordPress. And it was functional for what I wanted to do with it - which really wasn’t much. I posted to it a few times a month, at best.

Recently, however, I had a client who approached us a Blogs About Hosting looking for an installation and hosting package for his photoblog powered by PixelPost.

PixelPost, hmm? Now, a year or so ago - I did an installation of it for a friend and wasn’t all that impressed by it. But for the life of me, I can not remember why I wasn’t impressed back then. But I do know they’ve released the latest version of 1.5 - so I thought I’d give it a whirl and see what was on the inside. Plus, if we were going to start hosting PixelPost users - I needed to know it inside and out in order to assist with troubleshooting, right?

So I installed it on my site.

There are several templates that the PixelPost community have released for it. However, for a number of reasons, I created my own template and design for it. Mostly because I don’t like using templates that are seen a gazillion times all over the web - - that, and I am kind of partial to the color purple.

I’ve found it to be a really functional and easy platform to use to run a photoblog. At least it suits my needs at Snapping Photos. I’ve also become familiar and comfortable enough with it that I’m able to assist my hosting clients in troubleshooting it.

And of course - I now offer custom PixelPost template designs here at E.Webscapes, if you’re interested )
