E.Webscapes was approached by Patty of Mother-in-Law Hell to do a full design of their WordPress powered site, as well as several custom implementations of site features with some magazine-type theming, custom post submission forms and a customized WordPress administration panel. Patty was looking for something very colorful, retro and funky. . .
Mother-in-Law Hell is a blog that provides advice to daughters-in-law who are having problems getting along with their Mother-in-Law. I guess this must be a common issue, because Patty’s site has really taken off! First, I provided her with graphic design that she was really thrilled with in a color scheme of oranges, yellows, greens and pinks that she really liked. The illustration of the old lady on the blog (symbolizing the mother-in-law from HELL!) was done by an outside artist (whose name I wish I had, but don’t) – and I took that custom illustration and integrated it into the rest of my design.
After the design work was completed, I went to work on the development of the site. It’s not set up like a ‘typical’ WordPress blog. You’ll notice the front page pulls in one of the most recent requests for advice and then pulls in one post from each of her different categories by using an excerpt and image icons for each of the categories.
I also included customized submission forms so that visitors to her site can submit articles and posts directly from her blog. Those post submissions get submitted as moderated posts that she is able to login and review, then publish. This creates a lot of great interactivity on her blog and allows her readers to post requests for advice in dealing with their own Mother-in-Law Hell situation!
I also customized the design of the back-end of her WordPress administration panel, so when her users login to her site, the admin panel is custom branded to give it a consistent flow. Check out the custom designed WordPress login form from her site:

We worked really closely with Patty to get the look and feel that she was going for. After a few iterations and mockups of the design work, Patty was really very happy with the end result. Here’s what she had to say:
I really LOVE the design:-)))This was what I was looking for!
