Got2BeGreen is a blog run by Susan Suarez and is an environmental site that primarily focuses on green technology, modern green living and inventions. I had the priviledge of creating a new, custom and premium theme for their WordPress powered blog. They had been using a free WP Theme they downloaded from the WP Themes Site and were ready for a custom look to individualize their blog. . .

Susan wanted to streamline the information in the sidebars, to make more room for sponsors and advertisers. I accomplished this by tucking her Recent Posts, Category listings, Archive listings and Popular Post listings in a nice neat container that is accessible through a bit of javascript magic and tab navigation:

Doing this freed up a lot of space in her sidebars columns to enable her to reserve space for premium sponsors and advertisers to help her monetize her blog better than she had been previously.

The three column, green, white and blue theme utilizes some great WordPress goodness through the use of plugins such as:

  • NextGen Gallery – which is a photo gallery plugin that I used to place her favorite “Eco-Terrorism” cartoon strip in the footer of her site. It is displayed in a slick, clean slideshow that allows her visitors to browse to the next/previous cartoon through Flash navigation
  • Alex King’s ShareThis plugin – which gives her visitors, and herself, a convienent, fast and easy way of submitting her articles to the various social bookmarking sites (Digg, Technorati, Del.icio.us, etc).
  • Lester “Gamerz” Chan’s WP-Print plugin – allowing her readers to print a perfectly formatted copy of her articles
  • Another one of Lester Chan’s plugins called Post Views – which is like a mini stats application that gives per-post statistics of how many times a particular post has been viewed

I had so much fun working with Susan – she is very passionate about her blog and the topic surrounding environmental awareness.

I was so happy to hear Susan’s final words at the end of the Got2BeGreen design project:

Lisa,

I’ve combed the site and haven’t found any bugs. This is great!! I love it!!!!!

Thank you for doing such a great job with the design, changes, execution and assistance in moving the site into the next level. I appreciate the great attentiveness to the project and wonderful way you polished up the site. You certainly know your stuff!

I plan to be a repeat customer with my other sites when they are ready to ‘bloom’!

Thanks again!

Susan

I’m looking forward to working with you again, Susan!
