See You in Austin for SXSW Interactive 2010!

This is my 5th trip down to Austin Texas for the annual South By Southwest Interactive Festival. I always have a fantastic time during my visits to SXSW – - I get the chance to rub noses with some favorite geeks across the internet, from all points on the globe and do a little promotion of my various books and projects that I have going on at the time.

I am leaving for Austin exactly one week from today! I am flying out of Milwaukee on March 11th and am staying in Austin through March 15th. I will be mainly out of the office during those dates – but will be checking email and, of course, progress on various ongoing projects that are in my current and active queue. Should you need to get in touch with me directly during those dates, please send us an e-mail and my assistant, Lindsey, will be happy to assist you – - or grab my attention in Austin if it is urgent.

If you are reading this and are also planning on being in Austin for SXSW – please let me know! I love SXSW for the opportunity to meet new people and to put faces to names I see floating around in my Twitter and Facebook accounts!

Also, if you’re going – I am planning on being at the SXSW Happy Hour & Internet Oldtimers Meet Up on Saturday, March 13th from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at J Blacks Lounge for some fun with old friends I only get to see once or twice a year, and new friends that I haven’t met yet! You’re invited to come – it’s shaping up to be a great time with great people! Hope to see you there!

Meet me at SXSW 09!

I will be attending this years (2009) SXSW Interactive Festival again this year, and I’m really excited! This makes my third trip to Austin for the SXSW Festival and, I have to say, if you’ve never gone and have the opportunity to this year, or in the future – it’s WELL worth the trip!

I’m not just attending, however – I am appearing together with ServerBeach to bring you (the attendees) some WordPress Goodies to take home with you! ServerBeach (powered by Peer1) is an awesome dedicated, self-managed hosting services that we have been in business with for the past 6 years, we lease equipment and rack space from ServerBeach as the foundation for our blog hosting services. Aside from being an extremely happy customer of ServerBeach – I am also a big fan of their overall philosophy of going to great lengths to satisfy the needs of our core customers, the “Geeks” – people like WordPress users and attendees of the SXSW Interactive Festival. This may all sound like a huge sales pitch, but it’s not really – - it’s a lead in to some exciting goings on between myself and ServerBeach at the SXSW Festival!

I will be appearing at the ServerBeach exhibit booth at the following times:

Saturday March 13: 1-4pm
Sunday March 14: 1-4pm
Monday March 15: 1-3pm

WordPress For Dummies: ServerBeach will be giving away free copies of WordPress For Dummies at their booth, and as a bonus – I will be present in the times stated above, to do book signings. So stop by the ServerBeach booth and pick up your FREE autographed copy of WordPress For Dummies. Already have a copy? No problem – stop by the booth to say hi ? I love to meet my readers, and I?ll sign your copy!
WordPress Q&A: During the times I will be at the ServerBeach booth, I am also available to do a quickie WordPress Q&A if you have any specific questions on how to use WordPress on your site or blog. I?ll have my laptop ready with a clean install of WordPress open, ready for your questions.
Premium themes, anyone?? I do a lot of custom design work for WordPress users here at E.Webscapes – - for SXSW I am doing 5 free Premium themes for WordPress users – available ONLY to SXSW attendees who stop by the ServerBeach exhibit booth on March 14-16, 2009. Here?s what you do: stop by the booth and ask for the super secret link to Lisa?s Premium WordPress themes they are giving away. That?s it! (the themes are free and completely GPL). I will be guest posting a bit over on the ServerBeach Blog and giving away a few more details on these themes, including some teaser shots and info. Back in Action . . Almost!

We flew back from Bonaire, South America this past Sunday. My husband and I, that is. Chris and I were married on 6/24 in a beautiful ceremony in upstate New York. I will have a few pictures to share here as soon as I can wrangle them away from our photographer. Randy and his crew were just amazing to work with throughout the whole process … of our wedding planning and ceremony – I just can’t say enough about them. You may notice that I’ve rearranged things a bit around here with the new design. I began working on this design in April and polished off the finishing touches over the past few days as I begin to drag myself back into reality again. By and large, the redesign is completed – though I will probably fine tune things here and there as time goes on and if you see anything I may have missed, drop me a line – feedback is always welcome and appreciated!

Much has happened during this hiatus that we’re excited about:

SXSW Coordinator, Hugh Forrest, emailed an announcement that “How to Make $$ with Your Blog Design Skills” made the “SXSW Honor Roll” of best panels. This was the panel that I was one of the speakers for at the SXSW Conference in Austin this past May. That is very exciting and basically means that our panel scored a 4.0 or above (on a scale of 1-5) on the feedback provided by participants. Very much looking forward to iSXSW 2007 – I had so much fun being a part of it in ‘06!
I launched some very fun and interesting sites shortly before my departure that I really had a great time being involved with:
1. Blog Image Host is a free image and photo hosting service who launched their services in May ‘06.
2. Blog Goliard was a very fun project to do that included a custom illustration done by our own We Wildermuth, talented lady that she is. She did the illustration work and I completed the rest of the template design and layout.
3. Jane Wilson-Marquis Couture Bridal is a couture evening and bridal gown store located in Manhattan, NY. Jane does extremely wonderful and gorgeous work with her gowns and evening wear – I was thrilled to be a part of this site and involved with such amazing talent!
4. Yuuko Suzuki is a very talented classical pianist located in Tokyo, Japan. Yuuko currently resides in Tokyo and continues to give concerts internationally in Japan, U.S.A., Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Czech Republic, China, and other countries. She has a sampling of her work on her new site which is just stunning!
I’m looking foward to attending the Wordcamp in San Francisco in August of this year. The idea is to bring WordPress users and developers so we can meet each other face to face, share stories, and try to figure out the future of our little corner of the online publishing revolution. I’ve signed up and, at this point, am 95% percent sure I will be attending.

We are getting very close to re-opening our virtual doors to accept new projects and orders again. I’m working very hard to stick to the promise of opening up my availability at the end of July (hopefully sooner!). Keep your eyes peeled here for updates on availability. Once again, thank you to EVERYONE for the well wishes, congratulations and gifts of celebration. Now that the wedding and honeymoon are over (sniff!) the plan is to hit the road running and get back to the fun of working with you on your exciting projects.

I made it!

The three hour flight from Milwaukee to Houston was a nail biter the whole way. You know the kind of turbulance that lifts you as your behind a foot off your seat? Yep – I had three straight hours of that, with no let up.

…

But I’m here — all checked in and signed up for the conference and am rarin’ to go.

Since I arrived pretty early (yesterday) – I took the opportunity to hit the shopping malls in Austin. What kind of girl would I be if I didn’t, I ask? The weather here is GORGEOUS! Hmm.. Wisconsin, who?

Being down here ala carte (all by myself) and not knowing a SOUL in sight, this will make socializing a bit of a challenge. Slow but sure, I’m getting into that conference state of mind, though – - it’s kind of hard NOT to catch on to the friendly and easy going spirit down here in Austin this weekend. If you see me down here at all – don’t be afraid to walk up and say hi. I’m the tall, blonde with the geeky black rimmed glasses. (yea, not a lot of geeky black glasses down here at a GEEK fest now is there?)

Tomorrow is the BIG day – our panel starts at 3pm. Last minute homework to do tonight to prepare. I’ll let ya know how it goes!

SXSW Interactive Blog Design Panel

I’m headed to the SXSW Interactive in March, 2006. I’ve heard about it. Read about it. Thought briefly once about going – but you know, life does get in the way of fun quite often. This time, I’m going – and with a purpose, even! E.Webscapes has been invited to be a part of the panel for best blog design practices at the … SXSW Interactive conference in March 2006 in Austin, TX.

From their website: “An incubator of new, cutting-edge technologies, the SXSW Interactive Festival is ground zero for the world’s most creative web developers, designers, bloggers, wireless innovators and new media entrepreneurs. Stay ahead of the curve by attending this annual gathering of the brightest minds in emerging technology.”

Susannah Gardener of Hop Studios is organizing the panel, and is a participant herself. She is a designer and an author, having authored Buzz Marketing with Blogs for Dummies, and co-author of Dreamweaver MX 2004 for Dummies and Teach Yourself Visually: Dreamweaver MX 2004 and just completed BitTorrent for Dummies. So when Susie wrote and asked if I would be interested in participating on the panel of designers, I was thrilled and happily accepted!
